Welcome to the North Cove Elementary Media Center!  We have a beautiful media center in a beautiful part of the North Carolina foothills.  My name is Penny Jackson.  I am the lucky person that gets to spend many days in and around the North Cove Media Center with kids, teachers, books, computers, I-pads, magazines, fish aquariums and a world of learning.  I have been a media coordinator and teacher in McDowell County for 32 years.  I am a graduate of McDowell High School, Western Piedmont Community College, University of N.C. Asheville, Gardner-Webb University, and Appalachian State University. Living is all about learning and growing; celebrating and inspiring.  I am super excited about the 2016-2017 school year.  "Readers are Leaders!"  At North Cove Elementary we are "Leaders of the Pride."
"Trout in the Library!"
Once again, North Cove Elementary received trout eggs in September.  Our baby trout have hatched and are growing free swimmers. Fourth grade students help test and monitor water levels and conditions to ensure a heathy environment for our young trout to grow.
"Battle of the Books"
Fourth and fifth grade students meet each Friday to discuss and practice for the County Battle of the Books competition.  Each student is reading 18 novels, writing practice questions, and taking AR quizzes on the books.  Coaches LeeAnn Freeman, Penny Jackson and Teela Coward assist the students in preparation for the competition day.  Congratulations to Hannah Rose, Hailey, Jehu, Kylie Jo, Wyatt, Kaley, Haley, Devon, and Tessa for hanging in there!
